The Countdown

ok here we are just a few days from the movie opening and things are going fast. premiere, hop on the redeye, fill in for regis, do letterman---all to mobilize our people and our people's people to see this movie so we can make more and more of them and take mulder and scully into their old age. or close. did the press junkets this weekend, 10 hours a day of answering the same question and as i blabbed on and on i realized a couple things---this movie is really about the eternal balancing act of love and work, of passion for a goal or quest and passion for a man or woman----this is mulder and scully i'm talking about. this partnership plays out in a emotional way while they are tring to solve this freaky (my kids' word) mystery that may unravel and unravel them. the case pushes mulder away from scully but also toward her, love and work impossibly intertwined until a choice must be made. what is the choice? see the movie.

batman's got everybody scared that we can't do business, and well, it is some kind of a box office juggernaut. but i want to believe. i want to believe that our loyal fans will go see us right away (see some of you at the premiere tomorrow) and they will bring friends who never watched the x files and they will tell a friend and we will become viral and keep growing and hang on for weeks. a boy can dream. see you at the movies.

Excited for you guys and the new movie! Damn, it won't be shown here in the Philippines until Aug. 13 (also my dad's birthday). We X-phliers here will have to wait.

Just saw it today and I LOVED it. I knew I would and I'm a hopeless shipper so it was great. Loved the very last scene after the credits, it should have definitely been included in the movie or moved up a bit so the majority of ppl see it, not just the fans that knew it was there. But that's not the way Chris does things LOL he'd rather leave you wondering.
I'll definitely see it a few more times and bring non fans.

David,

did you like the movie yourself?

PLEASE READ, DAVID.

Dearest David Duchovny:

first and foremost i have to thank you. seeing a baby get buried alive in Home (s4) got me hooked on the x-files. the show brought my family together. my mom was interested in it to see your gorgeous self, my dad was interested in it for the plot. as a result, i was interested for a mixture of the two.

i painted my room green because of the x-files. i had an "alien" phase where i would go outside and just wait for a UFO to pass overhead. (i've actually seen two. i think.) I have two x-files posters hanging behind me right now as i type this.

i bought all the seasons on dvd (excluding the ones in which you are not there... ill buy those in due time.) i have a pillow case with your face on it and a tote bag with you and the saying "reading is sexy" plastered on. my devotion to the x files set me apart from the others in my classes. i felt unique and, yes, special, because i was so involved in such a wonderful thing. i even have barbie dolls of mulder and scully, complete with badges.
i bought "guide to the x files" books and would read the episode books all the time. (i once left my favorite one, Shapes, in an airplane and i was heartbroken for days.)

bree sharp's song is also huge for me. i can still remember exactly where i was when i heard the song for the first time, saw the video, unwrapped the CD, etc...
i began to see tea leoni as the luckiest woman in the world for being with you.

i simply think you should know just how significant you are to me. (and millions of other fans.) i'm just bridget from NY and i know this post has nothing special about it, im sure you hear these things all the time, but it is so special for me. i never had any way of contacting you and i still don't know if youll read this. but if you do, i say thank you. i love you.

and if there is any chance you have read this extremely long and heartfelt post, i have to include my mom in this yet again. she loves you too, but not as much as me :]

I just came from seeing your movie and I don't understand: I just want to go back and see it again... I am not a nutbag. In fact, I think I am a bright woman. I am doing a Ph.D. in genetics.

But it's friday night again and I am fourteen years old and my favorite show in the whole world is on. So I have to go and watch it...

Hi David,
Saw the movie again, it keeps getting better! There are so many cool things to see in Mulder's office; hey nostradamus!
I noticed a lot of familiar names (Tom Braidwood, Steve Kiziak, etc.) in the credits, after time apart did it feel like having lost family members back?? And did you pull any pranks on the set??

Hello David,

I just wanted you to know that you have touched the hearts of millions of X-Philes with your hard work in this film. I really hope that you're able to shake off the mediocre reviews that some news sources are giving -- each one I read is really just a display of the critic's own misunderstanding of what this movie is really about and what it's trying to accomplish. I was completely enthralled and moved by the film -- my only complaint is that I wanted MORE! So here's hoping for a third movie...

Again, thank you!!!!!

Hi David,

This week I was one of the freaky online xphiles who stayed up till 5am in front of my computer, knowing I had to go to work that moring, all just to share
some moments with you guys. I think this premiere event was absolutely amazing. Even though I could only watch it on screen, it seemed like you really ROCKED hollywood!
Thank you sooo much for answering our online questions, you had to answer the same questions over and over again - thank you for not getting tired of answering the same questions. Some questions were really needless to say and stupid, but you did a great job and you were sooo awesome on the red carpet! Jeeez...Thanks for waving at us xphiles in Europe! :)
It must be so exhausting and weary being involved in so many projects, hopping from one promo and tv show to the other, doing it all at the same time and still trying to comfort everyone around you.
Thank you for doing that. I hope
our devotion as fans is rewarding for you and gives back the impact that YOU had on us during the last
few months and will have in the future!

I watched the movie last night and I can't find the right words, it was so very touching and thrilling and surprising! It's amazing how authentically you and Gillian brought S&M back on screen, their chemistry was so thrilling and peaceful at once, just like if the six years hadn't passed.
I loved your gazes, everytime I saw your eyes it made me chill like in good old Mulder-times. You and Gillian were absolutely brilliant together - as always.
Thank you so much for your hard work and bringing back the characters!

Can't wait to see you in person,
Kerstin/Austria

Just to give way too much pointless information about myself, I've made it my personal goal to get as many people as possible to see the movie.

I've seen the movie twice already, dragging my girlfriend along for the ride. She was a non X-Files fan but I've got her hooked over the last year, we watched every episode in the lead up to the release of this movie.

Other converts include; my workmate and his girlfriend who have watched every episode and seen the movie, two of my friends when they were visiting from the US earlier this month, and my excitement this week made my radio co-host decide to go see the movie this weekend also.

Thanks so much for giving us the chance to catch up with Mulder and Scully again.

Dear Mr. Duchovny,

You seem to be really "spiritual" man :). The Movie was great, the story, relationship between Fox and Dana, and a little bit of good lambent humor - definitely better and understandable for non-X-Fans( are there such people??? maybe outthere:o)) than first Movie. We all grew up:). But we (fans) are missing the TV-Show too much. It's a pity that everything in this world has an end. ( Oh, am I citing the Matrix-3?) But we wanna believe that Mulder and Scully will not leave us, and if they do, only for happy ever after:)

Thank you, Gillian, mr. Carter and whole crew for the great job! Well done!

Be happy and healthy, and come visit your fans in eastern (and west) Europe sometime.

Julia (Ukraine and Germany)

The 2nd X-Files movie sure seems to have been made on a much smaller budget than the first one. I think that a lot of people were expecting another big spectacular movie. While the 2nd movie helps to advance the story & franchise, many people would still like to see another big X-F movie on the scale of the first one. There has to be an X-F3.

Great job, David. I really enjoyed the movie--far more than I expected to. I loved that it was smaller in scope and more focused on the characters and how this one case might dissect their sensibilities. Lovely work, really. (And I loved the final shot after the credits. I'm now expecting the next movie to be an X-Files/Lost cross-over.)

And Scully---man, can she rock the google searches or what. I type in a subject and normally just get a bunch of random blog hits. ;-)

I hope the movie does well. Thank you for all your hard work on it.

Clarissa said...

Hello,
I am worried about Batman too. I am really hoping that every man and his dog has already seen it in its first week. It is incredibly frustrating that there is a great big juggernaut in The X-Files' path.

I am definitely taking my friends with me to see the film when it opens in the UK. I was prepared to drag them kicking and screaming to the theatre if need be - but of course there was no need. As soon as they heard there was a new X-Files film they were all really excited about seeing it. Yey!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for great things at the US Box Office this opening weekend! The X-Files really deserves great things. Mulder & Scully are undoubtedly one of the best screen couples ever and a desperately needed alternative to the majority of vacuous and inane Hollywood characters out there. Thank you so much for working so hard to get this film made. I really hope there are more X-Files films in the future.

Thanks,
-Clarissa :-)

p.s. Good luck with your promotional trip to the UK next week – hope you have fun, we can’t wait to see you.

Hi David,

i just saw the movie and well...i thought it was...ok. i didn't hate it. but i didn't quite fall in love with it either. i think the best thing about it, the thing i DID love about it was the mulder and scully relationship and who they became and how they handled this new case.

the case itself was something i wish that perhaps would of been different. i am slightly disappointed as a fan who has been loyal for over a decade BUT my love for the show and the characters will remain just as strong. i'll content myself still with my season 1-6 dvds. i'm hoping for an xf3 and would hope you guys try to not to think to much about pleasing non philes. just make an xf movie and i'm sure it will be successful.

hope you have a good week-end...i'm off to a nerve wracking audition!

There are so many things that we, fans, would like to say.. But I'm pretty much sure you've heard it all! Well.. maybe you haven't heard much of Brazilian fans.. I'm from Northeast Brazil, and we've waiting for soooo long to see the movie.. I saw the preview, in a room that couldn't fit everyone who wanted to watch it. Many people watched it sitten on the floor!!! But it worthed!!!! I hope you will be able to do many others. For sure, in Brazil you'll find many fans, old (like me) e new (like my boyfriend). But I can't help asking and I really hope that you'll answer me... Is there a minimal chance that you guys would come to Brazil??
Once again, congrats about the movie! Remember the episode "they neve die"??? Be sure: you, guys, will stay alive in our memories FOREVER!
All the best!

i just watched the movie in singapore on friday and i gotta admit it was such a thrill seeing mulder and scully on-screen again =D. i've been hooked since i was 12, was so sad when it all ended in 2002, and now i'm 23 i feel no less different about the series! it's so cool to have all the familiar little things in the show to remind us, the fans, of times past. and i was so stoked your characters kissed in this movie (the tv-series doesn't count) and had that getaway thing at the end. (i thought the weird/ paranormal factor was kinda mild this time though, but nothing beats seeing mulder and scully in action again!) thank you and gillian for returning =)!

I saw the movie yesterday and, well?

It was like being transplanted back to childhood on Friday night, watching a brand new episode of the show ... only this time we got two hours of it. It was like an old friend that I'd been missing for such a long time suddenly reappeared, and I loved it.

The critics giving less than nice reviews are obviously not fans of the show, nor know much of what it was about.

I've now been compelled to but my schoolbooks aside and have myself an X-Files marathon for old times sake and will be crossing my fingers that there will be a movie #3!

CONGRATULATIONS on this movie. If there was ever a movie (or an X-File, for that matter) that pretty much says it all, it's this one. Well done, you & Gillian & Frank & Chris. I've seen it twice already and am bringing other friends & family this week! (insert girly gushy-ness here!)

i did enjoyed the movie. and i plan to see it at least a few more times. i have a lot of things to think about them. to discuss them with my friends who are also the x files fan. its a movie to think about it. its not for who come to the tearte for eat some popcorn and see a violent action and sex scene. its a very good movie. its about mulder and scully. about them together and about each other of them. about their changes. and the plotline is not so weak as do think some people. the only thing i dislike - incorrect translation in another languages. iºd like to see it in original one. i saw it in spanish and russian. itºs a little different. but i liked one thing, one error that made a russian translator maybe a porpose - she called him Fox in a bed spooning scene. it was so... intimate... why , why it wasnºt a real original text??

Okay, I admit it. I snuck away Friday afternoon, drove the 35 miles into town and saw the X-Files movie--twice. (loved it)I'm not going to tell the sisters I saw it already, because I want to see it again. Now I'll have to put more gas ($4.09 it went down)in the Park Avenue for the 70 mile round trip on Tuesday which is Senior Citizen day. Okay the ticket is discounted for us old folk, but I'll go see M/S 2 a few more times before it comes out on DVD.

I'm still trying to figure out how to put the converter on my TV. Hope that doesn't affect my DVD player...but I'm rambling.

Thank you David and Gillian for giving our young people an example of the kind of "love" that is hard to find in today's cinematic offerings. Mulder and Scully's love for each other is something we all long for in this life. Mine is upstair asleep right now.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you CC, FS, DD, GA, MP and Fox Studio and all the wonderful people behind the scenes.

Saw the movie again tonight in a packed theater in LA. I was so happy that the crowd seemed to really get it, and it sounded like there were a lot of old time fans there-- they even applauded when the theme song played at the beginning. The suspense really played with this crowd, too.

I'm not going to lie. I love this movie, and I got even more out of it the second time I saw it. It's a complex, beautifully woven plot that you just don't get very often these days.

Safe travels to London.

If you're talking VIRAL, go check out John Cusack's MySpace website. He's done a great job of viral 'advertising' for his little film WAR INC. and to their great surprise it is still playing in theaters, weeks after it was released. Perhaps you could think of some similar ideas, because this film needs some good Box Office if you want to do the next one.

As someone said a few posts ago, it's strange to call you David, for I don't really know you.. But you're probably used to it!!! ;)
Well.. I said in my previous post that you might not have heard enought from Brazilian fans.. I was wrong! I started reading other posts and realized how many fans had discovered your blog! How ingenuos of me!!! ;)
But not only Brazilians.. also many other Latin America fans wrote.. And that makes me ask once again: would it be possible that you guys would come here? Perhaps a tour at Latin America! First, you'll love all the beauties we have here, and second you'd make A LOT of people so happy.. I don't know if you have ever come to Brazil, but I'm pretty much sure you and all the XF team would love not only Brazil, but the entire Latin America. Is there any chance? A minimal chance?
I wrote something at Gillian's website that I would also like to tell you: don't give up on XF. Scully and Mulder are characters that showed us that we shaw never give up trying to find the truth, to do things right, even though many times they only had each other to look for help. This, David, is a thing that no TV show is tring to show anymore. This is what no movie focus anymore. And this is what we need. And, be sure, there is no one else that could play these characters but you and Gillian!
We are hoping for a XF-3, not only because we are fans, but because you guys have what no one else has. Don't forget it!
All the best!

Reflecting upon your comments:

Mulder and Scully chose love, but in doing so, also chose their work. By the end, Mulder has decided to make a sacrifice for Scully, offering to escape the darkness with her (as much as is possible). Scully, on the other hand--after fully realizing/admitting why she fell in love with Mulder and that she can't give up (on him, herself, or her beliefs)--has accepted it is their fate to fight the darkness when it finds them (if it finds them).

IWTB is like a little oyster full of pearls! I love it. Thank you!!

Too many things are going on in my mind after the movie. I have seen it twice and it is still not enough! Maybe after 10 times it will be easier to get over the emotions. The movie is just awesome. Everything is perfect and the last scene, you waving - oh my gosh... We had an X Files meeting in Warsaw with all The X Files fans from Poland and went to see the movie together. It was an unforgettable experience. We sat in the cinema after the very last scene, in tears. Later talking the whole night and thinking what a masterpiece has been done.
If it hadn't been for The X Files we would have probably never meet and still would have this weird emptiness in our hearts...
Thank you for I Want To Believe.

PS: yes, it was my friend Malvi-Poland who managed to get her nine-seasons question answered by Amanda Peet at L.A. premiere. (sorry, but I promised Malvi to do it ;)

Okay, so congratulations on the movie. I found it to be absolutely amazing. The acting was incredible, as always. And I loved seeing people from past X-files episodes in the movie (ex. episodes: Pilot, Rush, Schizongeny, Clyde Bruckman's etc...) And then there was the easter egg at the end! The Scratchy Beard line was adorable. But aside from the MSR (which was phenomenal) there was the storyline. It really took me back to the X-files episodes that scared my pants off (the ones I had to watch with the lights on, lol) I see it for my third time today. And even with seeing it my second time yesterday, I still loved it. Resurrecting old Fox Mulder couldn't have been easily, but it WAS Mulder none-the-less. You were Mulder to a tee. There wasn't a flaw in you had in becoming the character at all. The acting you did was outstanding, and your chemistry with Gillian hasn't lessened at all over the years. If anything, it increased. I've had many obsessions in my life. Many of which lasted a few months. But, I became enthralled and captivated in X-files just last summer, and I'm even more enthralled with it now. This is despite the fact that The X-files was put on the air a few months after I was born. The movie Also tied up loose ends for me that THE TRUTH did not.

Then there were the little things in the movie such as: Sun Flower Seeds, The I Want to Believe poster, The picture of Samantha, newspaper clippings and articles on the wall, and the basketball on Mulder's desk. I'm talking about the things a real X-phile would appreciate.

The only thing that disappointed me were poor reviews from critics. Now, every movie, show, play, or musical for that matter are going to have their fair share bad reviews. Now that's just status quo. But, I'm betting money that the bad reviews came from the critics that never even paid any attention to the show or anything. They didn't understand an ounce of what was going on.You and Gillian Anderson both made lines that could mean nothing mean so much more (ex. things said about William) Now, those damned critics knew nothing of all the pain and suffering Mulder and Scully have been through those nine years. I feel that it's the reviews of the actual audience that count. The viewers are the ones that pay to see the movie, the ones that will be seeing it over and over again (like myself). I write XF fanfiction on fanfiction . net and I keep getting reviews on my stories and messages through the website saying how much the person had enjoyed the movie. The majority of them say that there planning on seeing at least ten times in theatres. After I saw the movie I went into Batman to see the last ten minutes of it (i saw it last week) I was sitting with my friends during the credits when the audience began filing out. I did my part promoting the movie by yelling at everyone to go see XFILES. I said that the next showing was theatre 17 in ten minutes. I yelled that it was way better than The Dark Knight. I truly believed it was. It was a gripping thriller that had you on the end of the seat the whole movie. It also had a fine balance of romance (not just between Mulder and Scully, but a little Mulder Skinner towards the end too) and intelligence.

Now, if you read my comment I want to say thanks. It was a truly long one.

I'm hoping for XF3!

Thank you, David, for everything.
And especially for letting Mulder and Scully have a real, real, real kiss at her car. Some of us have been waiting fifteen years for that.

Dear David,
I saw the movie and I have to be honest, I didn't like it...at first. So I went to see it again, and I liked it...so i saw it again and liked it a little more. I am plannign to see it at least one more time and purchase the dvd when it's released. It was so great to see Mulder and Scully again - they have been missed. I hopewe get to visit with them again soon - and I know you will (or at least I hope you do) push for more movies. But maybe Fox should reconsider the release time so they are not overshadowed by the big blockbusters during the summer - unless of course the next one has a huge budget!

Good luck to you, David. Now off to wrap up Californication with you, I can't wait for season 2!

Love,
Michelle

Hi David,

The movie's premiered in the States now and I'm just counting down the hours (and minutes and seconds) until the London screening. Can't wait to see the film at the Empire and then again (several times) when I get back home to Wales. I'm already dragging a load of work colleagues along and I've no doubt all the other philes will be doing the same with their friends.

I'm sure with fans like this the movie can't fail to be a success.

Good luck, and thanks so much.

I'll be going again next weekend.

HI Mr. Duchovny....TruCalling again... I just saw the box office numbers and its upsetting that they movie made only 10.2 mil. I hope this doesn't discourage you, CC, and GA bringing another X Files movie. I loved the movie. I loved seeing M&S together again. IF you all decide not to do another X Files, it would be very disappointing, but maybe you and Gillian and do another movie together... You two have amazing on screen chemistry. Keep your head up!!!

Delighted to hear that you and Gillian will be at the London premier. Its hot and steamy in the Uk right now but a little cooler thankfully by Wednesday. Thanks for your gift in doing this movie for all of us, all of you who were involved. It means so much to us. we wills see the movie as much as we can as we really want that 3rd movie!!!

Love to you all for doing this, we so love these characters. See you in London David. we hope you will stay and see the movie chat with fans.

Hi David!
It's just started in Russia. X-files have a lot of fans here, so fingers crossed.

I've seen the movie and must say it worth seeing though pedophilic priest was the last character we expected to see)) But for me it feels relevant to the original show. I mean you guys always raised up themes that others would rather skip.

It was funny to see references to russian scientists in Scully's research. So we are the bad guys? Again? ))

Applauses to you and Gill as Malder - Scully part is definitely the best of all. After all these years you both are so natural, so believable. It felt like a real thing there. And it's great that you made Mulder matured (in a way so different to Hank Moody))) and still keep this Don Quixote's charm...

So THANK YOU, DAVID )) Waiting for X-files-3 now. And if you were the director, what theme would you pick for the next movie?

Hi DD!
Saw the movie Sat. night with my husband and we loved it! I don't understand the negative reviews I've seen and read, it's a really good movie!
I just found out about the movie a few weeks ago (I know, kinda sad). I was a huge Philer back in the day, was a member of the fan club, etc. But all that came and went as I became a Mom and things like soccer, ballet, house, husband took over.
But, then it happened, I saw the trailer one night while I was putting my kids to bed. It stopped me dead in my tracks, I was frozen. I couldn't believe it! I got online that night and have been online ever since. So I just want to say thanks for bringing back the fun all over again! Here's to many more movies! Go M&S!!

Karol said...

Okay, so I spend a week or two in the north woods of Minnesota every year, kind of a spiritual journey for me, but this year just happened to coincide with the release of the movie. So I didn't get to see it until today (Sunday), after returning to civilization. I went to an early matinee, which was strangely not well-populated, but then again it was a beautiful day, and much of my town is still recovering from the devastating floods of last month. Since I had watched a few of the message boards, I knew to stay until the end of the film, and was - again - strangely the only one who did. So after the little Easter Egg, scene, I raised the roof all by my little self with a full-bodied "NAILED IT!!!" and successfully scared the pants off the kid who had just walked in to clean the theater between shows!

Although most of the audience was the 30-something crowd, I sat next to a couple who was probably in their 80's... the guy almost landed on the floor when he tried to sit in an empty spot for a wheelchair. It was dark. I grabbed him before he hit the deck, and helped him find a real seat. It made me happy to know that the X-Files audience does span the generations.

Now that I've done my motherly duty of "previewing" the movie, I will be taking my 13-year-old daughter, and about 20 of my friends and family. I think that comes out to seeing it about 21 more times myself, but maybe we'll go in groups. :) And we'll do our best to scare a few more members of the cinema's cleanup crew! Mulder and Scully were a constant through a very difficult phase in my life, and I feel that I owe them so much. I'm sure that sounds really pathetic, but what can I say... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! It was like visiting old friends... I cherish it!!!

Kudos, David. You definitely NAILED IT!!! :)

Hello Uncle David! it is obvious that they were very well in the premiere, and the movie, and I congratulate him. The story I saw the film in the Avant Premiere, July 21 here in Chile, and I liked it very much, I laughed a lot with some dialogues, and I laughed more with the last scene which was very comical novel. does not understand much the "joke" about George Bush .. and I was not the only ... but overall, the film was very good, I liked some games cameras, which I think Uncle Chris was responsible for this true? ... and his performance was spectacular ... haha .. always wanting to believe ... but I think the character of Mulder did not have a big change, besides having matured somewhat, who plays Aunt Gillian, had a more noticeable change, and expressing his feelings and says it without fear, at least that's what I've noticed ... but beyond, so good.
I hope you would have liked to submit to you, and Indian or Rogue Pichulonco ... occurred to me that idea because I think you have a good sense of humor. Beware much and...

Hi, David!

I finally was able to see the movie today and loved it very much. You and Gillian's relationship as Mulder & Scully was complex, intense, and very loving. CC did not disappoint me this time.

Fans: if you've been reading a lot of negative press about this film, ignore it. YOU MUST SEE THE MOVIE FOR YOURSELF, because when it gets down to it, the only opinion you should listen to should be your own. Only YOU can say whether or not you liked it.

David, you and Gillian definitely 'nailed it' and 'don't give up' on the idea of a 3rd movie. Thank you! :)

The movie was wonderful. Brought my 15 year old sister who has never seen an X file in her life and she loved it too. The whole "What, they can't pay for lunch?" thing on Regis and Kelly was too funny! Thanks for all your promotion and work for this film -- it's been great getting to see Mulder and Scully again.

My best friend and I had the amazing opportunity to meet Ms. Anderson before the premiere and then you on the red carpet, which had our minds spinning and it was a completely surreal experience to then plop down in our seats in the theatre and realise Xzibit and Dr. Dre were directly behind us. That entire experience is one I will most definitely never forget.

Thank you SO MUCH for this film. It is everything I could've wanted and more. The performances are so powerful and the way the relationship between Scully & Mulder has progressed and evolved over the years, away from our prying eyes, is stunning. You both masterfully tackled the interaction of the characters, giving us that electric chemistry in a different, more familiar way than before.

My deep thanks and gratitude go out to everyone involved in the project. Thank you for believing in it and in us. I have seen it four times thus far and plan on seeing it many, many more times. Not only is the film rewarding to X-Philes, it is a solid movie. It was gritty and raw and evoked that wonderful Hitchcock style of anticipation and shadows. I cannot thank you all enough for this "little TV show."

BEE NICE! David, I saw you on David Letterman's show. I am willing to bet mucho dinero (Well, I should clarify that I don't have mucho but anyways...) that a bee did not sting your child when he was 3 years old. Bees are very docile and they are not into poolside adventures. Wasps are the ones that are aggressive like that. They are out searching for flesh and any kind of meat. Why must bees continue to get the blame when they are usually the innocent ones? I saw the movie and I was entertained immensely. I prefer you without a beard in movies though. You look too much like an ivy league professor gone mad with that beard. Tee Hee!! ;) I hope your move goes well and it is a happy move for all of you. Anytime I went through Malibu on a trip, I had hoped for a sighting of the Duchovny clan, but alas, I never saw anyone famous there.

To Cynthia.
Nice you love bees and I can't be sure that what stung Miller was a bee or a wasp, but what you said isn't true. I've been stung several times by bees and I know very well the difference between wasps and bees. Also two of my dogs were stung by bees while they were just sniffing around. The vet had to pull the stinger out my puppy's nose. So, I don't agree with you. They ARE less agressvie, but when feeling threatened they will sting.

Btw David, I hope you're not too disappointed about how the movie opened. Most of the fans are very happy about the movie and it made a third the opening weekend of what it has cost to make it. For a low budget movie that doesn't sound bad to me at all, but who am I.
I'm hoping to see you on Wednesday in London and hopefully we'll get a chance to talk a few words. My suitcase, eventhough half empty, is packed. I'm very excited already and even a bit nervous, because I don't like to travel with anything different than a car. But hey, at least it's not a plane but a train.

I saw the movie for the third time tonight--I just can't get enough! I just wanted to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all you and CC, FS, and GA have done to make this film happen. After listening to you guys talk for months about how this movie was really made for the fans... I finally *got* it after seeing the film. It was absolutely beautiful. Mulder and Scully are meant for each other, and their relationship in this film is portrayed in a way that us philes have never had the pleasure of seeing before. So again, thank you. Despite what critics are saying and despite semi-disappointing opening weekend box office figures, you guys absolutely did nail it. Right on the head.

Thank you,
Amanda

Hi David.

My hubby and I watched IWTB and had our very own X-Filish experience...was initially seated next to this guy, who was alone. Before and when the movie started, he kept on tilting his mineral water bottle up and down (and it was going "glug, glug glug")and he would suck on it periodically(!)...and it was absolutely getting on my nerves cos it was spoiling my entire movie experience which I had looked forward to forever!
Fortunately, there was an empty seat next to my hubby, to which I escaped with huge relief!
That guy, however, continued his strange actions throughout the whole movie...which was kinda creepy (and as if the movie wasn't keeping me on edge enough awready!)...I intend to catch it another time, hopefully in peace, cos I think it was GREAT! Mulder & Scully still rock! :)

I'm an eighteen year old fan; I was three years old when the show premiered and didn't start watching it until three years ago. So it was really an amazing experience for me to get to attend the LA premiere.

I've brought non-fans to the movie and they've enjoyed it. I've also told old fans to go see the movie as well. I LOVE this movie! It's not only a truly disturbing, chilling X-File, but also an incredible romance. :)

I do think that this movie requires more thinking than your typical summer movie requires. It feels (in my very industry un-savvy opinion) that a fall/winter release date may have worked better. In any case, thanks from a very new fan (became a fan through TNT re-runs last year)I hope we can make it enough of a success that we may eventually find out what happens in 2012 :)

I remember being in the basement of my dorm in college watching xfiles on the one tv we had with cable and loving every minute of the action suspense and tension involved with all of the characters....was very happy to see mulder and scully still together after all these years, but was anticipating a search for William...Perhaps that is coming next? We almost called out Agent Mulder to our town of Buxton, Derbyshire last Sat! Apparantly these
mysterious orange lights were spotted in the North West UK. Even my friend next door and other neighbours witnessed this strange phenomenon. However we are not about to be invaded by aliens! It was infact chinese lanterns with candles inside that were let off by students from various universities after they graduated. How cool that this happened (causing a stir here) several days before you lot come over and premiere the movie in London! Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo!

My fiancé n' I been watching all the X-Files seasons on DVD for months in preparation for the movie. (Although we've only made it as far as Season 5, because well, life gets in the way of being a couch potato.)

Friday night we watched the first movie, and Saturday we planned to attend 'I Want to Believe'... but dammit, one of our friends had to be born 35 years ago and have his (super lame) birthday party that night, ruining our plans. We really should've bailed and caught the movie instead...

We managed to get out to see it on Sunday, hoping that our eight bucks would still somehow counts towards opening weekend box office totals. (Does Sunday count? It is technically still the weekend....)

Anyhow, we loved the movie, and we plan to see it in the theatre again just to show our support. I *really* hope they make a third!

Hi Dave,
I went to see the movie for the second time today. I still can't get used to it.

I really think expectations have been set too high. And I also think that critics review the film way too harsh. After all, I think it is a movie with a great message but, unfortunately, not everybody seems to get it.
I think there are some great ideas and some of them should have been deepened but... they weren't and so the movie just scratches the surface of these topics like faith, love etc. and thus leaves the viewer not knowing what to think about the movie.
Well, this might sound complicated but this is how I feel.

Moreover, I can't shake the feeling that the X Files itself hasn't really evolved since the end of the show. I mean, the X Files has been so popular on TV because it was something completely new with its theatre-like episodes etc. but technology and society changed. The new X Files film used the means to fascinate and shock people it already used in '93. Unfortunately, this doesn't work anymore. Nowadays almost every TV show has this theatre look and people expect huge explosions and terrifying scenes in a thriller.

I loved the M&S scenes though and I also thought your acting was great. You were so fresh and enthusiastic throughout the movie. I loved that.

Well, I feel like I had to say that. Probably you won't have the time to read it but I just had to pass it on to you! :)

Thank you for your efforts and your acting and everything! :)

Hugs from Germany, Ines

Hey David,

I've seen the movie twice now. The first time i was so excited and overwhelmed to see Mulder and Scully together again i thought it was very good. The 2nd time i thought well they could have done better. It just wasn't very X-File-y. I LOVED the shippy stuff (especially the end... heheh), amazing really after waiting all these years for it! But the actual story seems to have been there done that kinda feel to it. I hope that there is another one because i'd hate for this to be the end.

Thanks for your time and effort for all of us hardcore fans! The 2nd time i saw it with a group of fans, making it super wonderful to experience it with them. Maybe you should write the next one, I've always enjoyed your XF Episodes very thoroughly!

I began watching The X-Files in 2000 after moving away to college (no cable on the family farm). I worked backward from there, eventually watching all of the show's episodes. As a relative latecomer to The X-Files, I Want to Believe offers a new opportunity for me. Seeing Mulder and Scully on the big screen was thrilling! I just wanted to let you know that the film surpassed my expectations. I couldn't have asked for anything more. IWTB is a suspenseful and thoughtful narrative, centered around themes which are very appropriate for today's audience. I am proud to say that this movie made me think, and that's what I've always enjoyed about the series. I am also proud to say that it was quite creepy. To quote many other fans: this movie was "classic X-Files." Honestly, I don't think that higher praise exists.
We believe in you. Thank you for believing in us.

After watching "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" this weekend, I just wanted to write, as I did on Frank's blog, how much I appreciate the film and everything you all put into making it.

Several of the reviews I have read seem to lament that this wasn't a classic X-Files episode with Mulder and Scully investigating aliens and the paranormal, or that Mulder and Scully themselves have changed. After watching the film, I think these critics completely missed the point. It seems to me that many people reviewed the wrong movie -- not the one that they saw but the one they expected to see.

This is not a big, fun summer popcorn movie. It's not a sequel to "Fight the Future" like people may have expected. It is a surprisingly intimate epilogue to the show, a thoughtful character study that examines faith and redemption and the universal quest to find meaning in life. To me, the casefile itself was incidental, a catalyst for them to deal with the fallout of their retreat from "the darkness". I was surprisingly moved by Mulder and Scully's interaction. I thought you and Gillian did a wonderful job keeping the essence of the characters intact while infusing them with a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

I'm sure you all could have made a "classic" X-Files movie if you wanted to, but instead you did something I consider a lot more brave and unexpected. Mulder and Scully have grown up. They have gone from being pop culture icons to mature, fully-realized characters. It takes a lot of balls to change iconic characters. Moreover, it's rare for movies to portray a relationship with this depth; Hollywood so rarely goes beyond the adolescent hook-up phase to what it's really like to love another person and the sacrifice and compromise that requires. I certainly didn't expect it in an X-Files movie, and I don't think a lot of other people did either.

I had an Art History professor, Dr. Jonathan Ribner, who told me once that "Art is a conversation that never stops." It's disappointing that the film isn't getting the critical acclaim I think it deserves, but I think this movie will stand the test of time. New fans will see it and want to go back to find out more about these characters, and knowing their future will add an interesting dimension to their viewing experience. For longtime fans like me who found the character motivation just as interesting as aliens and monsters, this movie was an unexpected gift. Thank you so much for bringing it to life.

Hello, David!
I'm Anya from Russia. And I would like to thank you and Gillian Anderson, Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz and all people, who created the "X-Files: I want to believe". It's a great movie. Very honest, about fear, love and faith.
You and Gillian - amazing actors. And her eyes - it's something unbelievable!
Thank you all!
And don't give up!:) Because we'll wait 3 part :))))
Good luck,

I saw the movie at midnight opening day, the first showing. Loved all of it, and gave it five out of five sunflower seeds in my review. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading this blog of yours. The behind the scenes stories, your description of what you do to become Mulder (and to become David), all of it is interesting and cool. Thanks for letting us inside your head.

Hi David,
I'm not sure if this has been shared with you or not, but this was posted in Frank's blog as well as the xfilesultimate forms. This reviewer completely understood the movie and has eloquently written the best review I have ever read (about this movie or otherwise). I thought it was worth sharing with you and all the nay-sayers out there:

http://reflectionsonfilmandtelevision.blogspot.com/

I absolutely LOVED the movie and I am so thankful to you, Gillian, Frank, and Chris for making this film. You definitely N.A.I.L.E.D. I.T.!

dear mr. duchovny,

sorry - earlier i stated, that i was a little disappointed by the movie. but now, having watched it a second time and this time in english (not german) it suddenly all makes sense! mulder&scully magic back again. the story in the hospital could have been shorter and better written, but despite that i really do believe: it's a great movie! it'll do gain the respect it deserves on dvd...just you wait n see!

still its a pitty that you won't come over to germany...

David - I loved it! It's quiet and intimate and strange - beautifully shot and acted. I've seen it 3 times - enjoying it more each time. It shouldn't be compared to other "summer movies"; the plot's no odder than giant green men or caped crusaders. Please don't be disheartened - you guys did good work. A request - would you consider putting together a website (like Gillian's) - it would be nice to know of your future projects.

Mr. Duchovny,

This blog has been a great place for interaction, but the full press run you've made has brought a smile to my face. I love you in interviews.

Anyways. I want to talk about believing today, and I hope you'll address some of these issues in your next post here.

$10 million opening weekend. It's not pretty, but if the reported budget is close to true... we thankfully won't be done with this amazing franchise.

My first reaction to seeing I Want to Believe was lacking. The film does suffer from its budget-- sequences like the snow plow taking out Scully's car (with poor ol' you in it) need more. The film's supporting cast isn't quite X-Files worthy... I'd give up Xzibit for Robert Patrick in the role of "doubter" any day (and I like Xzibit as an actor, this just wasn't his role) and Amanda Peet sucked the film dry every time she came on screen... never a good sign when people are saying "Thank goodness" when a "good guy" dies. And, while I think the man is a genius in many ways... Chris Carter is not a director. Someone with a better eye needed to be doing the visuals for this film.

I think the decision to take care of the many relationship issues the show had was a good one for this movie. But with this done, it's important to look back over nine years and realize that the most important element of the show was missing-- "The X-Files". The show revolved around the idea that there was someone who was searching in that darkness, and that he was such a revolutionary figure that his death would mean the start of a crusade.

"I Want to Believe" was an okay movie. Well acted, one of the best soundtracks this year, and even though it fails on many of the levels that critics are accusing, it is NEVER untrue to the established world, allowing the fans to embrace it. But because the word "okay" has circulated, this film is going to suffer at the box office. It will do fine on DVD, but there is no reason to see this movie in a theater. The easy way out for Fox will be saying "Dark Knight killed us", but that simply isn't the case. At least a third of your current fanbase has started up since "Fight the Future". And where did they start? TV reruns. DVDs. This movie didn't promise anything big enough for them to leave their homes!! I remember the promotions for "Fight the Future"... right up front was always that explosion with the police car flying forward with you and Gillian ducking inside. Something grand. Something that looked expensive. I hate to admit this, but in the science fiction genre you need something "big" to get us to know this is more than something to watch from the couch. I wish that I could say otherwise, but big plot events in "I Want to Believe" are small--LOOKING UP STEM CELL THERAPY ON GOOGLE? There simply has to be a more interesting way to show our genius scientist finding out about such procedures than something that boring.

We need to know there is an event. Part of that will be casting. Bring on more Skinner in a trailer. Use the supporting cast who will make more fans come out-- Armin Mueller-Stahl, Lucy Lawless. Promise us something that demands our immediate attention.

From my understanding you are a large part of who we have to thank for the fact that we are getting MORE X-FILES and the fans appreciate that. But we need something more intense to bring in the greater crowd. You have given us the emotional arcs to the characters that we needed. Now scare us. Now shock us. And at some point, you'd better damned well tell us what happens in 2012. :)

Thank you for believing, but realize that in some ways... well, that isn't enough. 20th Century Fox screwed you all on this one some. Find a way to fight back, and prove the critics (including myself) wrong. No matter what, know the fans and critics alike loved what you brought to the table... you nailed it, but the whole needed something more.

In case anyone was thinking my first post was putting the x-files down, i wanted to clarify: I liked the movie, it was a good movie, but so much happened after the first movie with the plot that i wanted it to go there, to believe Mulder and Scully are saving us from complete colonization...that somehow William would return as a Gibson Praise mini-me and lead his parents to the answer they need for a happy ever after...I just didn't think the case they made for Mulder's atonement was really x-files material...could I see Mulder showing scully some slides of a severed arm at the feet of Father Joe a crazy convicted priest who claims God led him to it sure, but a missing FBI agent in the middle of an obviously very harsh winter in the middle of nowhere hardly pushes my buttons enough to bring in one of the best paranormal detectives the FBI ever had and forgive him all his trespasses against the government...they really need to push dr. frankenstein a bit more for me... to call in the calvary...I'm sure David if you are reading this you think I'm bummin' on your film, but I've been with the xfiles from the beginning and love the underlying plot of the whole thing, after all it's what finally brought the dynamic duo together even after the artic trip only left us marveling at the possibility...ok so i've stated my thoughts..perhaps we might get movie feedback straight from the Fox's mouth if he returns to his blog sometime soon.

you are beloved and I hope you and Gillian aren't getting discourgaged, because much like the early days of The X Files, this movie will slowly catch on and people will realize it's brilliance.

also you are INCREDIBLE in the "break up scene" for the 30 seconds before you say, "well good luck then." I LOVE THAT PART SO MUCH!

I saw the movie for the second time yesterday. For me, it was just as awesome as the first time. For my friends that are too young to have watched the series from the beginning, it was much better the second time. Hopefully that means I can get them to go again in a couple days!

btw, I noticed a lot of little funny things this time (the "Beautiful Wasps Having Sex" book on the bed, "POO......L", etc.). Are those things funny while your filming it or only when you're watching the movie?

Mr. Duchovny,
I loved the movie you and gillian are amazing together I do hope the whole x-files team will continue to make more movies. There is so many things that are unanswered from the series and I think it would be great if you guys could create more movies that answer some of these things. Oh and I love Californication, I can't wait for the second season. But until the next movie I'll have to depend on my box set of all nine seasons of x-files. It's so amazing!!!!! Have a great time moving to New York.

It was so great to see these characters again, like meeting old friends. I had the same feeling watching Indiana Jones - except that movie didn't make me jump out of my seat.
Hopefully there will be another X-Files Movie, myth arc or motw, as long as we get to see more of them (and it's a pity Agent Whitney most likely won't appear again..).

Can't wait for the DVD to come out.

thought I'd pass this along since i took the time to write it for a friend.

this review is coming from an avid fan....
even if the movie blew chunks, I still probably would have been happy to simply see Scully and Mulder on the screen again. I'm just your average Joe....not really. Jenna. 30 something, mother of 6. I first found x files when I was a teen. The episode I happened to catch was terrifying to me at the time and I never thought of the series much again (wish I could remember the episode). I mean, come on, I was too busy watching 90210 to give x files a chance. I revisted the series several years later in early reruns my husband had taped on vhs's. (hmmm, that might be incriminating-dont think your supposed to do that....I redeemed myself anyhow and later bought the series off of amazon when my thirst for more could not be quenched.) I was bored and wanted something to watch. It was old x files or star trek episodes, and well, for me, star trek will never be my first choice. First episode i do recall seeing is "Humbug" and I was hooked.

Back to the movie......
The beginning felt ackward. As an audience I did not feel confident of the actors revisit to their old characters. I would describe it as "staged" though that seems quite an ironic term as...... well, its a movie, it is staged. The idea and goal though I suppose is to leave us (the audience) believing we are watching actual events.
Though the chemistry between Scully and Mulder felt evident immediately, I still felt unsure of their current relationship in this film and it took some time for that to be fully understood. maybe i don't catch on quick, but i don't think thats necessarily the case.
There was a certain part in the movie about 1/3 of the way in where Mulder is speaking with Father Joe that all of the sudden his character clicks again for me. Before that I was attentive but felt the movie somewhat uncomfortable, especially certain parts in which the script felt like the old Scully and Mulder, but that they pushed it too hard and made their lines feel ackward, unnecessary and out of place. It was the right lines at the wrong time and place. Lines we have all heard before many times, but didn't really fit in this moment. Though the scene at hand may have seemed inconsequential, once this scene with Father Joe and Mulder took place I enjoyed the film much more because here was the reason I spent $50.00 to come and see it. I can't explain what was so riveting about this particular moment. It just felt like the actors, particularly Duchovny, were in true character now.
The plot itself was interesting, though contained no reference to the conspiracy theory-which in my impression got a bit whacked out towards the end of the series, but hey, its the wackiness we all loved about the series anyway, right?
This movie actually contained a relatively tame reality (in my opinion). Not like Tooms or something equally wild and fascinating. I feel they stuck too closely to reality and that took away some of the spirit of x files. Granted, there were definite bizarre moments and ideas, but not the old show stoppers we (meaning I) remember and love. This movie and the plot surrounding it could have been made by any studio with any actors. It did not feel limited to x files in its grandiose plot and theme. Especially an x files episode worthy of the big screen. and actually, thats kind of what this movie felt like, an episode. i was expecting a bit more bang in there. Also, I think i read of the desire not to alienate new viewers by making the movie a reference to the conspiracy theory, but well, I'd take a guess that most of the movie goers are already fans anyhow. Your competing with a new batman movie, Will Smith in hancock, and Wall-E is still showing on multiple screens. who knows what else is out there...I dont keep up on films much. But anyhow, thats alot to compete with. The average american can only afford to attend the theatre so many times, with rising ticket costs to go along with the many other rising costs that are clawing at our pocketbooks. so there must be a reason for one to choose this movie over the others out there. The reason is, I believe, the same one that brought me to taking my husband and older sons to the movie. My thirst was still unquenched with a desire for more Scully and Mulder. So, would it really have hurt to go out on the edge, probably not.....it actually may have helped and hooked new viewers to feel the need to go back and see it all for themselves.
Now I give kudos to the makers of the this series period. once most series are through, the viewer feels generally okay about it and moves on. X files though keeps hanging on and you just want more.....gosh, is there subliminal messages in this show to keep us coming back? Nah, I think its just a winner. Well thought out, scripted, and acted.

So, though I think any x files lover will be satisfied seeing their favorite characters take the stage together once again, I would not classify this movie as a must see for its entertainment value. It was decent, but not awe inspiring wonderful.
The first box office x files movie was definitely a better movie in my opinion.
Saying all this, I still wouldn't be sad if x files continued to make movies. I'd go see them. Through my x files "obsession" (as my family will call it) I have a little place in my mind where I like to keep Scully and Mulder and just prefer to pretend they are real people there, so feeding that desire to continue watching their escapades would keep me going back. after all that's what draws many people to x files. Not just the fantastic storylines, but the unique ability to totally immerse the actor into the character and converge them as one so well.

......and a note- i thought it funny to see another like minded individual who has no time for proper punctuation.....i regularly have to back up in my writing to fix it, particularly in business dealing, lest I appear a dolt.
my friends like me anyway....

Saw the film. Just so you know, I am a fan. I own every episode, but it's not my life or anything. I just decided to collect the episodes because the show was on during my children's births and such and I was perpetually confused since I missed too many episodes.

Anyway.....the film. I saw it on July 27th. Me and ten other people. Mama Mia and The Dark Knight had sold out multiple shows. It made me quite sad that no one was there. Where was the buzz? The advertising? Or has TIVO wiped out that possibility? Back to the movie.......a little slow with uncomfortable characters and a little rusty. But, I enjoyed it. I'm going to go again with my 15 year old and give it another go. Good luck with it's success. I'd love to see more movies.

And I love Californication. Very smart show. I support you and Gillian unconditionally.

I came back from London last night. I hurt, my almost dislocated my shoulder on my way back and it's killing me, I'm so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open (how you guys do that???) but OH BOY WAS IT WORTH IT!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH!! I sat on the front row, gave Chris a bag of Dutch licorice (drop), saw you and Gillian finally in real and then the movie. My goodness, did I love the movie!! Mulder and Scully has changed, but then again, so have we. I don't need to see constant shooting and yelling and fighting. I'd love to see the internal fight of the two characters.
And maybe I'm wrong, but I saw a message in the movie. Don't give up!! Never give up!! And suddenly I realized, even if it's only me seeing that message, that without the X-Files I WOULD have given up..
If the X-Files wouldn't been there at the time and there wouldn't have been fans to talk to I really don't think I'd still be here. A I realized that during the movie. It was good it was dark because I had difficulties keeping my tears in.
So whatever people think of it, this might have been the most important one of my life.
Thank you for saving it. Please say thanks to Gillian, Frank and Chris too. And tell Chris to start a blog, so we can have talks with him too.

I just want to say thank you for this amazing movie. I really loved it. I watched seven times until now, but i'm planning to go to the theathers more days. I loved the way Chris put Mulder and Scully's relationship. It was very beautiful, honest and deep. The movie was very intense, the photograph was beatiful and the narrative was perfect too.
Some crtics didn't understand the movie, so they talked a lot of crap. But i don't care what they say. They don't understand X Files' world. Unfortunately, not everybody is smart enough to understand it. But anyway, it is an amazing movie and make me more hungry for more X Files' movies. And i have some friends that never watched the series and liked the movie, in fact, they want my DVDs!
When the series ended up in 2002, I was asking to myself what would happened to Mulder and Scully. I'm so glad thay you guys answered my question. I watched The X files during nine years and it was the best show ever. I'm very happy with this movie and i can't wait to buy the DVD and I hope you can make more X Files' movies.

I hope you've heard us yelling NAILED IT in London in the theatre when you and Gillian and CC and FS went out. OMIGAWSH!

I just missed my chance to get an autograph when we all were right behind the barrier, we had to leave our space to get inside. And after you left the empire you went right to 'our' spot, dammit!
So is the live.

I hope you have seen the banner we'd made for this event - bc I will never see it again... I think so bc it was stolen! :(

I hope you're ok, you seemed so thin and ... I dunno! Are you fine or was everything to much for you!

Beside that it was just so damn cute to see you finally with Gillian arms in arms LIVE. Your both performance in XF2 was so wonderful. Yeah, I love the spooning-scene and the very end where you both are waving at US! Wow!!!

XF3 has to come, maybe there is hope!

I think that Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz did a wonderful job of paying homage to the original heart and intention of the series, while cleverly managing to create something unique and highly entertaining for a new fan base.

I'd also like to say how much I appreciate that both you and Gillian have continued to perfect your craft over the last six years. There has been much growth in both of you as artists, and it really showed on screen. Thank-you for honouring (yes, spelled correctly since I'm Canadian!) the subtlety of these two meticulously constructed characters. The effort was not lost on me.

Hello David,

You looked a little unsettled at the London Premiere last Wednesday? I'm guessing because you're away from the family? That must be tough to deal with sometimes. Plus the moronic press were asking you all the same fucking questions that you must be have been totally SICK of! I know it's not really your scene but so glad you flew over with Chris and Frank...and I bet Gillian's glad she's home now. :-) You guys made a lot of folk very happy! I just think it was so kind of you to pull out all the stops and make a real effort to be there for the UK and European fans. Oh and thanks to Frank you probably now have my CD? You were only a few feet away from me when you stepped out of the car. But I really didn't wish to bother you with it. So I just called out a 'Hi' to you (and received a lovely :-) in return.) Anyway I hope you enjoy my songs? (I think Miller and West may enjoy the original little xmas number I recorded :-) And I think the letter inside says everything I wanted to say regarding past online stuff.

Hope you and the family don't take too long to settle down in New York. Moving is very stressful (well it was each time for me!)

I felt a little out of my depth in London, so am glad to be back home with my husband. Don't really like cities as I'm a country lass - born and bred. However Vancouver made a real impact on me! So looking forward to going over again next year (this time with Pete, who is getting the oportunity to work as a gardener on V Island!)

All the best with everything else you pursue in this crazy little thing called LIFE! :-)

Take Care!

So thankyou so much for coming and looking lovely despite the stifling heat and humidity. I think I lost a few pounds and got sunburned in the heat. It was an amazing never to be forgotten experience. Have a rest now if you can recharge. Looking forward to Californication and the new movie. Thanks for the best two days I have had in ages. It was pure magic.

My love to all your family ,. Thanks also to CC Gillian and Frank. I loved meeting you all and thanks CC for the laugh!!!

I gave Chris some Dutch licorice. Never knew you may like those too, most foreigners don't. Did he share? It wasn't double salt but coins. So much better.

Take no notice of critics or people who were sent to see the movie who either were not fans or who don't have the mental capacity to accept a cerebral, multi-layered movie. Screw them, Your fans Love it!!! Carry on, make movies about ever evolving, wonderful characters that you breathed life into many years ago are still much appreciated.

Loved the fact that Doggett and Reyes were completely , utterly ignored. WAY TO GO!!! Not in any third movie either and bring back the LGM instead. Please get William back for the 3rd movie. DON'T GIVE UP I think was pertaining to William, the coming 2012 invasion or both.

get some rest David. You did great. Thanks for making us so happy to see you in the flesh. sorry about the humidity. Only bad thing about Wednesday. ***Badly behaved German fans*** pushing shoving and being asses and the humidity.

Love ya David. You rock. Tara

Yet more blurting at the end of a very long trail of comments...

I really enjoyed the movie, and it brought back some wonderful memories of the friendships I had when the first film came out, and the fan community in those days (the world before Facebook and mySpace, oh my!). In those days, I was the geek running the Desk for Dana Fund website, which was how I met my husband.

A lot of myself at that time was caught up in this show and it was great to just enjoy the movie and think about how some things have changed, and how much else remains. Looking forward to the next one!

A question for you: my husband was at the press conference for Evolution in Sydney a few years back now, and he asked you whether Chris had planned the mytharc all along and you said something like "there was never a plan!" Just wondering what you think about it these days, especially if the third movie goes back to the mytharc!

I Want to Believe... in XF3 (set in Hawaii, of course).

Thanks again!

I could have loved the movie more. Unfortunately the story really sucked. There was no premise. We are used to seeing the unexplained, the paranormal in a very smart, scary way, that raises a lot of questions instead of answering them. I was disappointed that the movie actually turned into a really gross episode on a Sci-Fi channel.

Mulder and Scully rocked, they were still Mulder and Scully. It was both nostalgic and amazing. I can't believe we survived so long without them. Loved it beyond words.

Anyway, I am too much of a X-Files fan to trash the movie. Even if you guys did a movie in which you were a sunflower seed and Gillian was a poppy seed and you were protecting the garden against an evil locust in a silly spoof of a X-Files, I would still watch it and rave about it.

I would really wish that you challenge the boundaries of people's perception. If you can be Hank Moody, I am sure Gillian could land up on Californification and do something, maybe berate and hate you - be the women you can't stand. I am sure it can be figured out

It would be a real pity if no X-Files movie is made and we never see you guys act together. Apart from the history, I think she is a very fine actress, one of the best.

Anyways, I have always been in love with all things X-Files, I hope you continue this blog after the X-Files as well. I recognize that it started as a tool to get people to connect with X-Files again.

Best.

Hello David,

I watched the movie now twice, in German and in English. I must say that I liked the English version much better and that it is good to watch the movie twice to get everything ;-)
IWTB really initiated a huge discussion within the (German) fandom, I am active myself. The opinions vary and are at times very opposite.
For me, personally, there were very good aspects and less good aspects, but altogether I am happy with it!!
I am thankful to have been able seeing Mulder and Scully again and I like your acting, both of you, and the way you grew your characters!
I liked the boat scene at the end, thanks for that one :-) (even that caused many speculations *g*).
The so-called Easter eggs were fun and the soundtrack is just awesome, adorable, brilliant, overwhelming!!!! Especially the two Unkle tracks are running all the time :o)
I hope there will be a third movie!! It doesn't have to be for the cinema though, a TV or DVD release could take off pressure you folks might have with 20CF and having to match with the non-Phile audience.
The intention to catch more viewers was successful with some people though, there are some new Philes showing up.
My conclusion; not all are totally happy with it but I'd say most are satisfied anyhow! And despite all discussions; the movie made it to revive the fans' fever and passion, bringing them together again. Like I drove to Cologne, bringing a friend of mine -a non-Phile- and met up with 6 other Philes I never met and only know from the fanbase forum. They had to be on the train for 2hrs to get there. Many fans watched the movie twice or more often (like some 10 times!!) and took even larger distances to meet up with others. And getting the fans together again to kinda celebrate what they like (mostly love) and appreciate is what I feel is the most important thing IWTB caused and what makes it precious! So thank you for doing it!!
Keep up the good work and never give up ;-)

Greetings from Europe!

Just a short note to leave with the masses you already have!

I remember having snuck down to watch the show when I was about five and being marched to bed because I was "too young". My mum didn't watch it much when school runs meant she had to sleep instead of sneak in a few X-Files episodes.

Have to say I was plesantly surprised that she enjoyed it as much as I did when I convinced her that she had to come.

I think you guys did a great job of pulling in new fans as well as us old ones since I heard a lot of folks muttering that they were glad they'd come to see it despite having never watched an episode before. And I knew I'd finally found some long term fans who sat chuckling at the small things like I did.

I definitely now plan to drag a lot of my non-Phile friends along because I know they'll enjoy it too! They may never hear the end of me saying "So... they're going to be ok, right?" but they know that the OS Forum and years of watching made me as much a Shipper as the next person.

This better do well because I'm looking forward to more movies ;)

I did in fact see the midnight premier opening day/morning and after seeing it understand exactly what you are talking about w/r/t the relationship of the Scully Mulder characters.

I would argue that the two are by far the two most developed characters in television. with the years that have gone into them as well as the situations it has been nice to watch them grow to this point.

I was very curious to see how you David (and Gillian) would bring that growth both in yourselves as actors and as people apart from the characters to the roll - or return to the roll.

I think I read someone's comment earlier that said he/she was a fan since he/she was 13 and I'd agree I came of age on the X-Files watching it from 14+ and am 27 now. As I go back and watch old eps and the movie its been nice to catch things I might not have fully understood and put it in context with my own development as an adult. This film really enabled me to bring that growth full circle as well.

Your performances were well done - as I fan I couldn't say anything else, but truly as a writer myself and film buff seeing how you brought your own development into the characters to bring them to this point was truly remarkable.

I do have a question, if you're still taking them: I heard a while back that you had a PHD in literature. I was an English major and find a great appreciation for your character on Californication. I look at him so much like someone who seems to be rebelling against the traditional "academic" world in both the way they have him write but also in how you play it. Is that something you think about when you craft his persona?

thanks again, what a great forum.

Hi Dave

I've just sent my views on IWTB to Frank's Blog and thought I'd post to you as well. I had noticed all the comments on there were just gushing the movie with praise. But I would hope that you and those who were involved would allow for a little criticism? Of course I was thrilled to get the chance to see the film at the premiere but I'm afraid I ended up having mixed feelings. There were some aspects I really enjoyed eg: the really disturbing creepiness of the plot which was pretty freaky even for X Files! But I had a hard time dealing with the Mulder & Scully connection. I could see they wanted to centre on their relationship of being together and the X File was driving them apart because of their different views on him accepting the paranormal aspect and her scepticism ...and so on. But I felt it was some what disjointed and forced in places? There were some snappy one-liners though. And I liked the fact they ended up together though felt it was rather in the style of James Bond at the end. Both heroes in their bathing suits in a boat out at sea with Mulder rowing them to a better life? Or maybe it was symbolic? They were finally free of the 'darkness' and heading for the 'truth and light'...which then possibly means 'The End'? (Which I know Frank suggested in interviews on the red carpet, IF it wasn't to carry on.) Or perhaps it was all just a beautiful dream? I do think some of the best scenes in the movie were with Scully and the little sick boy. That was beautifully handled by both actors. I also liked the Mulder torture stuff but it took a little getting used to the changed Mulder and in-particularly, Scully. I am taking several friends (one non-fan) and my husband to our local cinema next week. I for one would like to see it again to find out if I can enjoy it a little more next time around? Maybe I missed some stuff due to the excited atmosphere of the whole event?

I really do want to believe...that there's a chance for a third movie in the near future. But if not? Hey - thanks for giving us another shot of X Files! :-)

Take Care,

Penny xx

I don't think the extra scene with Mulder and Scully in the boat had anything to do with the actual film. That's why it was seperated. It was just a funny thing to say hi.
Or that's how I saw it.

Hi DD, it's me again!

I just wanna let you know that I've seen the movie 13th times now. It's a cool and meaningful number, but gosh, tomorrow I'll watch it twice with a whole bunch of other philes here in Berlin, Germany!

So I do everything I can to support XF2. I love it.
XF3 MUST HAPPEN!

Ah, and one critic said something about OSCAR FOR GILLIAN! WOHOOOOOOOO!

So, more and more critics are now re-thinking about the movie and describing it as “The new X-Files spin-off isn't just a failed attempt to revive a dated franchise. It's a brilliant and compelling tract for our time”! There are some quite wonderful reviews out there now, WOW!

DON'T GIVE UP, DAVID!!!

Hey David!

Well, it's over. My Mom and I were at the premiere and had an amazing time. I enjoyed the movie, but as you must already know, that's not the majority of people unfortunately. I did hear that the numbers will be enough to allow you to make another movie, so I'm really happy about that. I'm not sure what the plot should be about, but try for something unique, edgy and intelligent. I'll just be happy to see Mulder and Scully (and Skinner) together again. More scenes with Mulder and Skinner together! For me, it's about the characters and how they deal with all the sh*t.
;-)
Thanks for blogging!

Hi David,

Firstly, thankyou for the blog, much appreciated and for injecting your david-humor into it:)

Thumbs up from Australia:)

Saw the movie with a friend in Sydney last weekend and i honestly really enjoyed it. It was hard to know what to expect after all this time... i'd almost accepted there wasn't going to be a movie, then as soon as i do...you guys go and make the movie! Thank you to all of you for bringing back those characters we spent years watching on one of the most unique and entertaining shows there ever was.
I think, like yourself, we have all changed and obviously grown older (I was still in Highschool when X Files first started!lol) so it was really nice to revisit these characters and their journey and in some way, a special time in our own lives. I didn't realise how much i had missed them until i saw the movie. I can recall having a poster of you and Gillian from a local TV Guide on my wall and watching the show with friends and even my Grandparents. My Nanna loved the show!
We've been lucky enough to watch your talent in various movies and on Californication in the past couple of years but i hadn't seen much of Gillian and i was reminded in this movie just what a wonderful actor she is:)
The chemstry between the two of you and the characters was still there. We all love a 'will they won't they' story ..for a while and admired the largely intellectually based romance Mulder and Scully had...but let's get real...if those two didn't have at least a little sumthin' going on in this movie, i think collectively we all would have kicked the writers asses!God knows we waited long enough:P LOL. I see no reason that they couldn't have a private relationship as well as be collagues....it just adds to the drama:P
I was so glad to see Mitch pop up too, wouldn't have been the same without Skinner.
I know all the fans of the show will go...and take their friends. And audience will keep growing once word of mouth starts to build that it's a movie with a storyline that anyone, not just X Files fans can enjoy.
I saw Batman, a couple of great actors and admirable performances in there for sure. But i walked out with a headache, i don't know..just...."too much" going on and i don't think one person in that movie smiled!
But in your movie, i sat there scared, entertained, touched and even laughed a couple of times....and i walked out smiling like i just caught up with a couple of old mates i hadn't seen in a few years.
So give me that over Batman any day!
I definately see many possiblities for future movies, just the whole William story alone...if he were to fall into the wrong/or 'alien' hands.
Congrats to you all and the writers/producers.
For what it's worth, this Aussie chick enjoyed it and i will see it again.

Good Luck with everything and Take care

Cheers
Mel

p.s I have a question...Any chance that the X Files will captilise on the current success of musicals? Maybe release a special edition "X-Files....I want to Believe I Can sing?" I think you would look fine in spandex and flares belting out some Abba with Gillian and Mitch? Maybe ressurect the Lone Gunman as back up singers;)
Just kidding....blame it on the cold and flu meds lol.

Hi David,

I went to see the movie with my mom and a good friend of mine, and we all loved it!! I even (finally) convinced my friend to start watching the series... he's rather stubborn himself =P... been trying to get him to watch it for years, but he kept on refusing.

But finally, after seeing the movie, he changed his mind. Also, he's somewhat of a horror buff -- and before seeing this movie, thought that there was no such thing as a good Pg-13 horror film... but you guys proved him wrong :).

As for the movie itself, it was fun to watch... loved seeing the chemistry between you and Gillian again -- it was certainly refreshing, compared to all of the junk that is on tv today. Loved the cinematography as well -- it was breathtaking. Also, loved both the end scene between Mulder and Scully (very, very well acted by both you and Gillian) and the boat scene :D. My mom and I both waved back, and not to mention at the end of the film, I made sure to say 'nailed it' -- since both you and Gillian did a VERY good job acting and the movie itself turned out well.

Kudos to the both of you along with the rest of the cast and crew for doing such a good job on this film -- from the looks of things, it seemed to be a labor of love :D.

I've never been prouder to be a fan and I certainly plan to get the movie once it comes out on DVD.

My dearest Mr. Duchovny,
Today, after seeing the Movie for the second an probably the last time on the big screen, only wanting to catch Mr. Carter in hospital, Mulders phone book and the last scene ( God, looks Gillian gorgeous! really like a goodness, maybe even better than 15 years ago! This british style became so normal and obvious, she is great, and definitely not only as Dana Scully.)I have realized that names mean something. They really do!

I am not an movie freak, I do not really believe( but I want to), that You, not the marketing department of FOX have been writing this blog and answering the questions, BUT IMHO, there just some Actors all over the world and maybe ten in Hollywood ( not all of them are alive ) which have such terrific synergy of intelligence in their eyes ( surely not only there) and beautiful human sexuality ( not vulgar but natural and exiting) as You. And your “ spiritual” surname is the best prove that Names do mean something.
You know, I do not believe in Aliens, but I do believe in You!
I like x-files because of your dream team with Gillian, and some kind of romance between your heroes, which is dramatic and not soap-like (sorry I am just a girl, who believes in princesses and prince charming, who Is not just a prince but a Hero)
I you would make the next movie, I would be happy. , But you know what? If you don’t, I will be happy as well. The Last scene in the second movie is the best ending of the story at all. I am not sure, I want to know more about Fox and Dana ,( I can’t really understand why they call each other Mulder and Scully even in the bedroom? Some kind of game?)

Thank you for your work and your soul, which you gave as an give each time we watching you at the (big) sreen. You must be a proud of yourself!

You are great actor, be healthy and happy and come back soon, we all are waiting for your (and our) next challenge!

Julia ( Germany and Ukraine as well!)
